New Map for Course Renewal?

It seems to me that if the map is still legible after printing and making the change to the certificate information, it would be fine to re-use. I doubt the verification for re-certification would pay enough to make it worthwhile to make a new map. Especially if one wanted to make an electronic map, instead of hand-drawn.

I'd re-use the map portion of the map unless there's a pretty good reason to re-draw it.

Sometimes I will freshen up the descriptions of the points (especially if they weren't typed on the original certificate) and add the new expiration date and measurer's e-mail.

I will always update the information on the front of the certificate.

The link that Pete suggests has an error in what should be on the map. We don't want to use the term course Valid from! Here is the Map info!
Maps should have the following:
1.Course ID - (done by Regional Certifier)
2.North Arrow - (done my measurer)
3.Race Name and City- (done by measurer)
4.Start, Finish and Key Turns with descriptions- (done by measurer)
5.In place of Expiration Date the following will be there "Effective MM/DD/YYYY to MM/DD/YYYY" after the course number - (done by Regional Certifier)

Maps should not contain Pictures or Photographs.
Maps should be only done with Black print on White Paper
Maps should have a margin of 3/8”
Maps should be done on the back of the Certificate if possible.

Here's a variation on this question:

Certifier receives an application from a new race director to extend the certification of an expired course. In the twelve years since it was first measured and certified, the course hasn't changed, but the name of the race HAS.

When the certifier issues the new certificate, he or she updates the race director's information on the front of the certificate. Does he or she also update the name of the course?

Obviously this could cause a little confusion for the registrar, but a note explaining the circumstances should clear that up. Plus the course is now identified on the USATF website with the name the race is now using.

Any other issues with this? I see the pluses of changing the course name far outweighing the minuses.

I thought that there were no extensions for courses any more. I thought after 10 years, the course had to be re-measured for a new certificate number.

If that is the case, there is no issue, as it is a "new" course, with a new cert number, and the new name. Am I incorrect on the extension?

"USATF certified courses expire after ten years from original certification. Course certificates issued prior to 2001 contain renewal language and may be renewed. Courses certified in 2001 and later may not be renewed."

So, any course measured before 2001 can be renewed to 2011, but not past that date.

You have a good point.

As for changing the name, that's not a problem as long as the registrar is notified. This is only going to occur for the next 22 months, hence I feel since it's an expired course then allow the name change.
