Here's a tourist photo for the edification of all. Shown at the World's Best 10k in San Juan, Puerto Rico, are (L to R) Ken Young, Jim Gerweck, Pete Riegel.

Jim ran the race. It was hot and he finished just under 50 minutes.

Knowing the course was 1.7m overdistance made it all the more difficult

For those puzzled:

The course is a closed loop measured a number of times at 10100 meters with SCPF.

Because the start and finish get shifted a little from year to year, I always check the separation.

The crack steel taping team of Young, Gerweck and Riegel got this year's separation at 98.3 meters, making the course a nominal 10001.7 meters. Because the start and finish equipment was all set up we did not insist that it be moved.
