Anyone have any experience with this? A measurer submitted a calibration course to me for EDM certification indicating a "Topcon Hiper surveyors grade GPS" was used. My first concern is that's not EDM by definition. He indicated it was accurate to 1/4"? It's a first for me, thought I'd put it out there and see what anyone knows

Is the measurer a licensed surveyor?
Sorry for the delay, took me some time to get in contact with the measurer. Yes he is a licensed surveyor. Also in the interim I talked to Justin and he indicated this is an acceptable procedure for this calibration course
In the past the policy has been that electronic measurements of calibration courses are acceptable if performed by a licensed surveyor. I don't know if that policy has changed.
I have experimented, as has Mike Sandford, with using consumer grade EDMs to measure cal courses. I found that it required reflective targets and a mounting system for your EDM that allowed fine adjustments of 3 angles in order to be able to hit the target at 150 meters (a standard photographer's tripod was not good enough). I would place my EDM on the mount at about the middle of the cal course, and take measurements of the targets at each end of the cal course. In the end I decided it wasn't easier or faster than pulling my 100-meter tape 3 times.
With a total station or something similar, the story might be different.
