US measurer David Katz was very briefly featured last night on "The Apprentice." The TV show was covering a New York PR event involving performing Olympic athletes and New York's bid for the 2012 Games.

David was briefly spoken to by the Apprentice contestant. He looked competent in his electronic headset.

I don't really watch The Apprentice. Instead, I employ a TV watching service which tapes all shows. They alert me whenever a person or event matches up with a checklist I have prepared for them. This list includes names of people in whom I have an interest.

This allows me to view only those segments of shows which are of concern to me, keeps me from wasting my valuable time, and protects me from impurity.

I believe Douglas Adams predicted the existence of a similar device back in 1988. He named it the Electric Monk. Electric Monks would be employed in the future, Adams proposed, to believe in things for us, thus saving us valuable time. Someone shows up at your door with a tedious religion, fine. "Tell it to the Monk."

I know I could use one Smiler
