From today's pre-race press conference:

quote:
"I know Boston is supposed to be a slower course than London, but a guy from Running Times sent me an analysis of splits at Boston, and it showed that it's possible to run up to 90 seconds faster at Boston, with the downhill course, if you time everything perfectly."

That guy was me, and the analysis was the one Bob Baumel did that was published in an old Measurement News when the Boston "aided course" debate was ongoing.

So if Ryan wins Monday, Bob can take a measure of credit.

And, with today's technology, what took Alan hours to do can now be done online in minutes. My, how technology changes things.

I imagine there is also a program available with which you can input the track (with elevation notations), and it can calculate the optimum pace along the entire course. Does that take some of the "fun" out of these challenges?
