On the shirts they have printed for this weekend's ING-NYCM, there's a design of the NY skyline, w/ a mirror image, like a reflection, below it. Across the right side up image is "26.2 Miles." Across the mirror image, also upside down, is printed "42.16 km."
Apparently this is on a lot of "official" gear that is for sale (hats, etc.) and had been reviewed and approved by an entire chain of command at NYRR (obviously Alan Steinfeld wasn't among them, since as a measurer he would have caught this instantly).
I joked to Basil Honikman that perhaps they were referring to the "short course" Alberto Salazar ran when he set his "world record."
