Jones/Oerth Counter Not Available

Paul Oerth called me yesterday to announce that the new version (shown below) has not proven satisfactory. The gear casing does not properly fit many bikes, and longevity may be unsatisfactory . Paul will be sending me an official announcement soon, which I will post here.

The plastic-geared counter

He has located a supplier for the former metal drive gears, but it will take a few months for an order to be placed and delivered.

Paul (who turns 80 later this year) is retiring from the business. It will be run in future by his sons Steve and Karl.

Expect delays of a few months for orders placed now. Those who wish to return their plastic-drive counters can do so for a refund (or an exchange). This is not yet clear and must await the word from Paul.

UPDATE FROM PAUL OERTH

"Hopefully everything will occur within the next four weeks. The big problem is the sprocket gears. We are not happy or satisfied with the plastic ones we are now using. I have a world wide search going on to find a steel replacement . . .Also I am not satisfied with the handle bar arrangement. I've put a hold on that project. We must get a longer cable which is difficult as the connector must fit on the sprocket gear. We will solve that problem or not make them."

I find this news a bit scary. Since many hands make light work, why not take a bit of time and see what alternatives might be found?
