Thanks for the sad news.
This is a strange coincidence. Just today I told my wife that I had met both the gold and bronze medal winners of the 1952 Olympic Steeplechase in Helsinki. John won the bronze. I met the gold medal winner, Horace Ashenfelter at Penn State after I ran in an alumni XC race. He and I are both alums of Penn State. I met John Disley when you, Wayne Nicoll, John Disley, and I measured the Orange Bowl Marathon while the race was in progress. I think this was about 1988.
At that time I asked John what he knew about the Russian (world record holder at the time) who came in second. John said he went back to Russian and drank himself to death.
