In cleaning out an old cabinet, I found these documents. One is the 1/13/1983 update by Ted Corbitt where he says the old one-meter rule is dead. (Before this time Ted advised riders to stay one meter from the curb.) The other documents are instructions Clain and I used to tell purchasers how to mount and use the Jones Counter. Notice that we never called it the "Jones Counter." It was the "Jones Course Measuring Device" on one document and the "Jones Calibrated Bicycle Wheel Counter" on another. I think shortening the name to "Jones Counter" was a good move.
