Dimension Survey

A cable-driven counter is in development. Some concern has been expressed that the cable may not be long enough to fit some bikes.

We are conducting a survey so we know what to design for.

Please measure your bike from the front wheel hub to the center of the handlebars at the handlebar mount. Measure the distance in a straight line. We will account for cable curvature

Send the length to Pete Riegel at riegelpete at aol dot com.

I will build a database from the information received, send the results to Tom (and post here). This will help us to properly plan the length or lengths of cable provided.

See below for the dimension desired.

SURVEY RESULTS

Distance from the center of the front axle to the center of the handlebars, as measured in a straight line:

Pete Riegel - 25.0 inches
Tom McBrayer - 28 1/2 inches
Marcel LaMontagne - 25 inches
Jay Wight - 26.5 inches (hybrid measuring bike)
Jay Wight - 23.5 inches (road bike - not used to measure)
Mike Sandford - 26.5 inches
Dale Summers - 28 inches
Ken Hardwick - 24.5 inches

More results will be added as I receive them. Please don't post your measurement separately. Send them to me and I'll put them all here in this post.

Marcel LaMontagne reports:

I suggest using the same cable length as Laurent Lacroix used for the
JOL cable drive counter:

cable, 30 inches
housing, 29 inches

I've used the JOL on 5-6 bikes over time, it's length has never been
an issue.
