Formatting Tables in posts

Does anyone know how to format a table? I have examined the buttons in the posting window. There is one on the right labeled </> which seems to be to introduce code snippets, I am going to try this to see if it will post a table laid out as a .txt file without reformatting.

I will try the here:

Kirkham asphalt          11000.78               + 44%   smoothest
Cleveland concrete       10995.92       11003.2 reference       
Cleveland asphalt                       10996.8 - 58%   roughest

Haha, it works just layout the table between the code delimiters with spaces exactly as you want it to appear. Just make sure there are no tabs.

Here for comparison is the same table without the code delimiters

I'll try the trick you suggested.

I've also been frustrated at my inability to decently format my posts. To overcome this I convert tables to pictures, and upload the pictures to www.flickr.com. Then I use the flickr url (generally for "medium" size) and insert it in my topic. This allows me to put up a post that presents the material in a way I like.

Mike, your columns didn't line up. It was a big improvement, though.

I notice that your example used tabs. I removed the tabs and replaced with spaces. Let's see if this looks better. I wish they had a preview mode.
