To: RRTC and Certifiers
From: Gene Newman, USATF/RRTC Chairman
Results of the first round of the Certifier’s poll were generally against the use of electronic counting (EC). There were three experienced IAAF/AIMS Measurer’s that are against the use of the EC for any of their events.
Hence, the question should the RRTC ban the use of the EC for measuring or is there a compromise? It is important to note that Neville Wood is working on simplifying things with the EC. He also should be give credit for his work on developing this alternate method for measuring.
Here is a Comprise until our Annual Meeting in Dec., 2009
The Electronic Counter is approved for measuring courses for certification only by RRTC Final Signatories or very experienced measurers, with the following exceptions:
a.It is not be used for measurement of AIMS/IAAF courses.
b.It is not be used for measurement for any big-city marathons, Olympic Trials, Olympic Marathons or National Championship Races.
c.It may not be used for Validation measurements.
