Alan - it was tons of fun and it was great working with Maurice Winterman of the Netherlands. I met Maurice at the Dubai marathon where he served as the measurer. He's a surveyor by trade as well as a good master's runner with a great deal of common sense.
Nike had a team of several dozen scientist working on the project and I was able to recruit some of them to help lay out the calibration course. They jumped right in like kids in a candy store. Then after the second measurement, one turned to me and asked me are you going to make adjustments due to the temperature? I smiled and said of course!

It was announced today, on the 65th anniversary of the day that Roger Bannister broke the 4:00 minute mile, that Eliud Kipchoge will again attempt to break 2:00 hours for the marathon. Will this be another David Katz measurement assignment?
