On behalf of USATF Adirondack , I'm writing to invite you to the upcoming Eastern Region USATF Road Race Course Measurement Workshop to be held at the University at Albany over the weekend of July 29-30. The workshop will be conducted by Mike Wickiser, past chair of the USATF Road Running Technical Council and current State Certifier for Indiana.

Mike, as many of you know, is one of the most knowledgeable measurers in the country, and we are most pleased that he agreed to lead this workshop and share with us the benefit of his considerable experience in course measurement.

This is a "hands-on" workshop for beginners as well as novice and veteran measurers who want to brush up on their measuring skills. Over a day-and-a-half of lecture and field instruction you will learn and practice the procedures required by USATF to certify a road race course. The general curriculum will include: 1) the fundamentals of course measurement; 2) laying out a calibration course; 3) measuring a road race course; and 4) completing the calculations, documentation, and map required to apply for a USATF Measurement Certificate.

If you plan on attending, we ask that you register as soon as possible For a registration form email me at jagilmer@nycap.rr.com. An information packet will be sent by return email to you upon registering. There is no fee for the workshop.

Each participant should bring his/her bicycle mounted with with a Jones-Oerth counter or other USATF-approved measuring device. (A limited number of JO counters are available through USATF-Adirondack upon request.)

For participants traveling to the Albany area, preferred accommodations for Fri and/or Sat are available at the Holiday Inn Express at 1442 Western Ave. at the rate of $95 per night. The hotel is conveniently located across the street from the UAlbany uptown campus where the workshop will be held. Please make your own reservations by calling 518-438-0001 or 1-800-315-2621.

Thanks very much for your interest, and we hope to see you at the end of next month!

Best,

Jim
