It’s nice to have things backed up.
Yesterday Mike Wickiser passed on his files to Stu Riegel, our new RRTC course registrar. Stu will continue what Mike has done, with one addition. Course certificates, as well as maps, will be scanned. This will give us electronic images of both sides of the certificate, and should be able to halt the continual growth of the paper files.
Mike did a herculean job of scanning course maps dating back to the early 1990’s. They have all been sent to Keith Lively, who maintains the USATF course map search engine.
I’m acting as a backup for Stu. I have copied all Mike’s map files, and have put them on a single DVD. They occupy 3.6 GB of space. I have not made an accurate count yet, but around 15,000 maps are there. The files are in TIFF format.
More backup is always good. To that end, and because some may enjoy having their own copy of all the maps scanned to end of 2004, I offer the DVD to others. When 2005 is complete I’ll add it to the disc, but that is likely a few months off.
Send me $5.00 and I will burn a DVD and send it to you. Note: This is NOT a CD. Only those with DVD readers on their computers will be able to use the disc. I may prepare multiple CD versions, but have not yet done so.
