Changing meters during ride.

I think the plastic hub mount gear boxes are all 30 counts exactly per rev. A lady I am training sheared a cable mid ride this morning. I have a spare hub mount with the same plastic hub she has. Could we put on a hub mount instead of the cable mount and finish the ride. If the post cal is smaller, would that be enough proof that constant protocols were not violated. Quick answer would be appreciated.

We changed the cable. Do not think that is an issue. Where do we get new handle bar mounted counters these days though?

I'm not the one to make the call here, but if her final distance came out within 0.08% of the other ride, you would have a good argument to say it was okay.
