Today I received notice that Carl Wisser, longtime northern California measurer and certifier, had passed away. I knew little of Carl’s life aside from his activity as a measurer. I met him in 1983 when a group of 13 measurers met in Los Angeles to measure the route of the 1984 Olympic Marathon.

From 1983 to 1999 Carl certified 490 courses, of which he measured 152 himself.

Original Post
Carl was an architect in Oakland and had measured a number of courses in the Bay Area. I had validated two of his courses, a 10 km and a 20 km, back around 1990. Both passed.
I had forgotten about the measurement of the Mountain States 100 ,which Carl had organized, that found the course to be 6 Miles short! On Mountain Bikes, of course.
