I just learned the passing away of one of our long time measurers/Certifier. Bill started measuring in 1985 and became a Regional Certifier in 1995. His maps were excellenr and served as an examples for all to follow.

I had many conversations with Bill and found him to be very dedicated to the certification process. About two years ago, Bill informed me that he had to retire as the PA Regional Certifier as he was battling cancer.

He will be always remembered as one of our best. Rest In Peace.

I've probably run Philly more than any other marathon. The night before the race, I'd go over Bill's map, and somehow, even in the throes of late-race fatigue, his descriptions of each mile point would pop into my head as I approached them (living in Philly for 5 years and being intimately familiar with the roads helped). Made the races almost bearable.
