I was searching the database yesterday for some ultra courses in NYC, and some I knew existed didn't come up. Then I widened the search by omitting "New York" from the "City" field and they appeared, as follows:
  • NY90001DB 60 km yes NY-Manhattan NY Central Park Ultra Loop
  • NY90001DB 50 mi yes NY-Manhattan NY Central Park Ultra Loop
  • NY84012TC 100 mi no Queens NY Flushing Meadow Park
  • NY84011TC 50 mi no Queens NY Flushing Meadow Park
  • NY84005TC 70 mi no Queens NY Sri Chinmoy

I would bet there are similar situations in other cities (Cambridge in Boston comes immediately to mind, although that's the opposite of Queens & Manhattan, which are boroughs of New York City, not separate cities themselves, although they're big enough).

Should there be some sort of check on this? I would think the state certifier would be the person - for instance, I would have no idea if Beverly Hills is technically part of Los Angeles or not.

Jim, Another point is when a race starts in one city and ends in another. Which City is entered? I always enter the starting city, maybe other registrar's have done this differently.

Another thing that happens is when there are two measurers, again I enter the first one listed. So if you search for measurer B, you will not see this person as the measurer of record.

I have had a measurer contact me and ask why he was not given credit for measuring courses after 2006. Researching this I discovered the past State Certifier recorded his name different than the new State Certifier. This was corrected on our Data Base.

There are some things we may have to do when searching by using our hidden talents.
