The poll on the BB about courses that would expire found most favored #4 with an added statement that the course measurement must be within .08% of the advertised distance. They also felt that only the original measurer or a Certifier would be permitted to do as indicated by number #4. It was found that the IAAF only does one measurement, but in most cases they still do two (this was noted by Bernie Conway and Hugh Jones from the IAAF). I now feel there are two things for us to consider:
1.One "Recertification Ride with SCPF" if original map is available - Mandatory to draw a new map even if there weren’t any landmarks changes. The course measurement must be within .08% of the advertised distance and only the original measurer or a Certifier would be permitted to do the one ride.

2.Let them expire and redo the course with our present standards.

Any comments are welcomed.

I vote for #1.

Let's say a measurer's 1st ride(3rd ride overall) is within 0.08% of the previously certified distance. You now have 3 measurements of a course that are within 0.08%. What is the probability that his 4th ride will not also be within 0.08%? Pretty low I'd say, but let's assume that happens. What is the probability that the 4th measurement turns out to be correct and the previous 3 measurements incorrect but within 0.08% of each other? So low that I would guess the results of all those required 4th measurements will never end up being used.

I think you can make the argument that for simplicity's sake, all certifications should be done the same way, but it's pretty tough to argue that the 4th ride will ever provide any useful information if the 3rd ride was already within 0.08%.
