If we're going to be curmudgeons we ought to use "5 km" or "10 km", which are the internationally accepted abbreviations, rather than "5k" or "10K".
But I'm not a big fan, I say let 'em call it what they want. To a point. Let's stick to measuring, not nomenclature.
