For Imperial courses, I use mile splits, although in longer races sometimes every 5km as well; for metric courses usually miles, although for 5km courses I will occasionally do km splits, in longer races each 5km point, and usually the halfway point.
On the S/F details, I usually give the distance in both units, since most RDs probably aren't metrically conversant.
