After posting the photo of the marker I realized that it is not a US National Geodetic Survey marker. It is a Michigan Department of Transportation marker. Obviously it is very close to where the NGS marker should be. I don't know if MDOT's procedure was to put markers very close to the NGS marker locations, replace missing NGS markers with their own, or what. But anyway, I can't be sure of this marker's GPS location.

I will continue my search for actual NGS markers.
