Reply to "Electric Bikes for measuring hilly courses with weak legs?"

Last week I took a short test ride on a Kalkhoff Agattu. I was just really checking the maneuvreability at slow speeds, rather than testing its hill climbing or range. It has 4 modes:

  • No assist- Quite easy to pedal with its 8 gears despite the 23kg weight
  • add 50% to your own pedal force
  • add 100% to your own pedal force
  • add 150% to your own pedal force

The controls are fast and easy to switch and give an amazing boost to ones legs. It seemed fully controllable and should be rideable without wobbles.

It looks as if the JR counter will fit, although it will need an extension on the tag to engage the spokes because the bike has a dynamo on the front hub. The wheel could be changed if there turns out to be a problem.

I think I might rent this type of bike for a trial on my calibration course and a nearby measured loop to test for wobbles and measuring performance. I also want to try climbing nearby hills.

I will repeat my original question, "Has anyone had any experience measuring with one of these yet?"
