I couldn't agree more, with Lyman. Arithmetically, the SCPF adds distance, BUT, the manual notes "Because it is difficult to follow the shortest possible route perfectly..." means (to me) that the SCPF doesn't really add distance, it compensates for extra distance already measured (removes distance?). Calling the SCPF "added distance" justifies, in some race directors' minds, removing a few feet here and there from the measured course.
