I've met Alberto Salazar once. At the conclusion of the Road Runners Club of America annual convention in Portland Oregon, many years, ago I was checking out of the hotel when someone spotted Alberto and thought I should meet him. They told Alberto that I was the inventor of the Jones Count. Of course, that didn't mean a thing to him. So the person explained a bit. A light seemed to go off in his head. He said, "So you're the guy who cost me my world record."

The next year the RRCA meeting was in Spokane where I met Don Kardong. I related my experience with Alberto and followed it up by saying, "I think he was kidding." Don said, "I know Alberto. He wasn't kidding."
