I used the long Memorial Day weekend of excellent weather here in CT to do a bunch of measurements.

I used the Protegé for the overall distance and split points, but also had a JR counter mounted with which I cross-checked the overall distance.

One of the great features of the Protegé method is that once you get your figures for the split points figured, you can repeat them all day on numerous courses (assuming they're all the same length, naturally) - you just reset to zero at the beginning of each ride. It's also nice to be able to ride to a course that's nearby and do the same.

The Protegé allows you to do the math just once, and in the comfort of home, rather than multiple times at each course site.
