"Your certified course is long!" says my Forerunner

My wife borrowed a Forerunner from a friend before heading out to the Corktown 4-mile in downtown Detroit. This is a certified course, MI05034SH.

Her total distance as recorded by the Forerunner was 4.07 miles. I imported her track into Google Earth and overlaid it along with a track that I input by hand based on the certification map.

If you view this with the satellite option on Google Maps, or with Google Earth, you will see that my wife is not only nearly as fast as a speeding bullet, she is also apparently able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

And I think tall buildings are the key here. Notice that as she gets close to downtown and the tall buildings, everything goes to heck.

So next time someone tells you your course measurement is wrong because their Forerunner says so, you might want to point them to the link above.
