I'm flying out to MN to do a measurement next week, and wondered if anyone has had any problems bringing a J/O counter through security. I know things vary from airport to airport, but in general. I'd hate to have mine confiscated and arrive w/o one.

I've done it loads of times. Never had even a hint of a problem. The thing is to not try to hide it. Leave it out and you can show everybody how it works. Mostly they don't ask.

Tom hauled 70 of them to London this year, in checked baggage, and there was no problem we ever heard of.

Here I'll add a bit - in talking with several others who have traveled with Jones, I have never heard of anyone having a problem

I suppose it's a relatively benign-looking device, isn't it? Still, some of the TSA folks react poorly to something unusual, regardless. I'm definitely not going to tempt fate by bringing on PK nails!

Jim,

Print out a copy of the home page at jonescounter.com and you can show them what it is.

I've carried boxes of PK nails without incident. They did ask me to open my bag once because my steel tape looked like a land mine or something.

And I thought this thread was about Hugh Jones being on his way to China for the Olympics.

Silly me.

Anyway, I'll echo Pete's experience with a measuring tape. The screeners usually take a look at a measuring tape more than once just to make sure it's benign.

And there's really nothing in a Jones Counter that would cause alarm. To be safe i think I'd treat it like fluids or gels- put it in a clear plastic bag, and pull it out of your carry-on bag and into one of those trays by itself.
