That guy was me, and the analysis was the one Bob Baumel did that was published in an old Measurement News when the Boston "aided course" debate was ongoing. So if Ryan wins Monday, Bob can take a measure of credit. |

And I'm the guy who purchased the four USGS topo maps that cover the Boston course and darn near lost my eye sight determining the elevation along the course. Those data are what Bob used his analysis.

And, with today's technology, what took Alan hours to do can now be done online in minutes. My, how technology changes things.
I imagine there is also a program available with which you can input the track (with elevation notations), and it can calculate the optimum pace along the entire course. Does that take some of the "fun" out of these challenges? |
