My JR has been performing flawlessly, but I notice it makes a hell of a racket - I think the metal gear is vibrating slightly from side to side. I'm going to try tightening my axle skewer a bit, although I'm reluctant to go overboard and cause excess resistance or binding.
Anyone else had this issue? |

Have you oiled it? This quieted mine down.

I lubricated it with some dry graphite-based lubricant, since I felt that would be less likely to attract grit & grime from the road. Maybe I'll just get out the old 3-in-1.

One thing that may or may not help would be to apply some tape to the back side of the ring(ing) gear. I'll give it a shot to see.
The slight dish gives it a small bell-like shape and tape may dampen the vibration and kill the harmonics. It sounds like the ring is floating in the gap nicely. The old JO's had lots of holes, and different geometry altogether so they were quieter. It does make the folks ahead know you're coming :-) Tom |
