The course measurement I did yesterday went well. But since it was in a state park, there were rarely permanent landmarks to reference my measured points against. Most of the time, I was on a road surrounded by nothing but forest. I measured points from permanent objects as much as possible, but they just weren't available for a couple of my points. Of course, everything's marked by P-K Nails (as well as paint), but will the lack of landmarks be a problem for those points?

Eric,

Some people use GPS readings with Longitude/Latitude. I don't like it, but for miles/km readings it works.

Thanks, Gene. I didn't have GPS technology at my disposal, but it's something I'll consider adding to my toolbox. Dropping a coordinate on each point couldn't hurt, now that you mention it.

Eric:
Some $100 automobile units work quite well away from the automobile.

I have at least 2 courses where the turnaround point is away from much evidence of civilization. I've described/documented as best I could, but have added photographs to aid in placement.

Thanks, guys. Good ideas. I documented/described/illustrated as best I could. And I just got an e-mail back from the regional certifier (Michael Franke), and I think it'll be okay. If not, I'll probably go out with my wife's Garmin Forerunner and drop a coordinate, and maybe take some pictures to send with the package.
