I hope I am not going to get my State Record Keeper in trouble, but I am getting ready to measure an 8K for Certification and I went online to see how many 8K courses we have in AL and I noted that the list of records for a 5 Mile run was listed "5 Mile/8K records". While I realize that these 2 distances are close, there would still be a 10 to 30 second difference in runner's times between the 2 races. Is this normal to list them together?

You can set an 8 km record if you run 5 miles, but you can't set a 5 mile record by running 8 km. Is a puzzlement. Are they listed all together in the category, or as 8 km and 5 miles?
Why not ask Buck Jones? Isn't he the AL record keeper? Pete Riegel |

Buck keeps the 8K and 5 mile records all as one category. We have (2) 5 mile certified courses here in Birmingham and I think I am going to "shorten" them both to an 8K. This would make it easier for runners to set State Age Records. I plan to move the Start line and finish line 76'-8" and leave the mile markers as they are.
