There was a recent press release from USATF about Galen Rupp being named USATF athlete of the week for winning his second straight NCAA West Regional title in Stanford, CA. The press release says that the course was "just 85 meters shy of 10,000 meters".
Does anyone know how they know this? That is, how was the course measured so that they know it's 85 m short?? |

My understanding is that the fifth place finisher, Stanford freshman Chris Derrick (the 2007 Illinois state HS XC champ) was under the impression that it was 400 meters short.
So, we have significantly different information floating around... This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jay Wight, Jay Wight USATF Certifier- Illinois IAAF "A" Measurer |
